Hot tubs are heavy and awkward. On a lot of Muskoka properties there is no way to wheel one around the side of the cottage. A boom truck can lift a hot tub from the delivery truck or driveway and set it straight onto the deck, patio or pad, even over the roof in many cases.
Common hot tub jobs
- New hot tub from a dealer: driveway to deck
- Lift over a cottage or garage to a lakeside deck
- Removal of an old tub so it can be hauled away
- Swim spa placement (much heavier, so ask about truck size)
- Moving a tub from one spot on the property to another
Before the lift
Make sure the deck or pad is built to carry a full hot tub. That is a job for your builder or the dealer, not the lift operator. Clear the landing area and have the power and electrician lined up for after.
Typical cost
Hot tub lifts are typically about $600 to $1,200. Swim spas and long reaches cost more. See the full cost guide.
Common questions
Can you lift a hot tub over my house?
Often yes. It depends on the height of the building, the reach from where the truck can park and the weight of the tub. Send photos from the road side and the landing side.
Does the dealer arrange the lift?
Some dealers do and some leave it to you. If yours does not, send a request here with the tub model and the delivery date.
How long does a hot tub lift take?
The lift is often quick. Most of the time goes into setup, rigging and safety checks. The operator will tell you how much time to plan for.
